Through these savings accounts, customers can carry out banking procedures seamlessly. For those wishing to open a savings account with Bank of Baroda, they will have to submit their KYC documents - proof of identity and address - to be eligible.

KYC Norms

The KYC norms were set by the Reserve Bank of India in order to protect the account details of the bank account holder from any sort of fraudulent activity. In addition, it helps the bank monitor high-value transactions and to curb any sort of financial scam, money laundering, and so on.

Cases When the KYC Norms are Applicable

The bank will request the KYC documents of the customer in the following cases:
  • If the customer wishes to open a savings account.
  • If in case the account has been held for many years, the customer will have to submit a fresh set of his/her KYC documents.
  • If the customer wishes to open a locker facility with the bank.
  • If the customer has changed his/her name, signature, address, etc.
  • If the bank requires any additional information about the customer.
  • For high-value deposits at the bank.  

Eligibility Criteria for a Savings Account with Bank of Baroda

To open a savings account, customers will be required to meet certain eligibility criteria:
  • Should be a citizen of India.
  • The customer should be 18 years and above.
  • In the case of minors, the parents or legal guardian of the minor can open the account on their behalf.
  • The applicant is required to have valid identity and address proof that is Government approved.

Documents Required to Open a Bank of Baroda Savings Account

To be eligible for a Bank of Baroda Savings Account, customers will have to submit the following documents along with account opening form.
  • Proof of identity - Passport, Driving license, Voter’s ID card, etc.
  • Proof of address - Passport, Driving license, Voter’s ID card, etc.
  • PAN card
  • Form 16 (only if PAN card is not available)
  • 2 latest passport size photographs

Steps to Open a Savings Account with Bank of Baroda

  • As soon as the individual applies to open a savings account in Bank of Baroda, the first thing that he/she will be required to do is to submit the following documents:
    • Proof of identity - Passport, Driving license, Voter’s ID card, etc.
    • Proof of address - Passport, Driving license, Voter’s ID card, etc.
    • PAN card
    • Form 16 (only if PAN card is not available)
    • 2 latest passport size photographs
  • The applicant will then have to fill in the application form. Note, all fields will be required to be filled in to avoid rejection of the application. If one faces issues filling in the form, he/she can contact any executive of Bank of Baroda for assistance. The customer can download the account opening form from the bank’s homepage.
  • Once the above mentioned documents are ready and the form filled, the individual will be required submit the form and the KYC documents at the Bank of Baroda branch of choice.
  • The bank executive will now verify the documents and ensure that the name, date of birth, address, signature, and so on, in the KYC documents and what’s mentioned in the application form match.
  • Once the verification process is over, the account holder will now have to make an initial deposit - depending on the minimum balance requirement of the savings account he/she has chosen. The customer can make the initial deposit at the cash deposit counter of the bank. No deposit will be required for zero-balance savings accounts.
  • Once the deposit has been made, the executive will hand you a debit card and the relevant bank documents with regard to the savings account.

Things to Remember when Opening and Maintaining a Savings Account with Bank of Baroda

  • One should check the interest rate over deposits for that particular savings account. The interest rate will determine your return over the deposits and knowing this before choosing a savings account is important.
  • Checking the minimum balance requirement of the savings account and assessing if it suits their finances is necessary.
  • One should check the penalty fees for not maintaining the minimum balance.
  • Customers should check the transaction and withdrawal limit per day for that particular account.
  • The applicant should check if there are extra charges if one withdrawals cash using cheques and the withdrawal limit per month at ATMs other than Bank of Baroda.
  • If in case a transaction has been without your knowledge, one should contact the bank immediately.
  • Once the account is opened, you should ensure that your account password and PIN is never shared through emails, SMS, or on social media.
  • Ensure that you check your bank statements regularly to keep a check if there are any cases of fraudulent activity and to keep a track of your finances - in and out of your account.
  • If your debit card is either lost or stolen, you should either block it through your net banking account immediately or call the customer care of Bank of Baroda to do it for you.
  • Avoid saving your bank account details on online merchant websites.
  • Ensure that you close the page as soon as you have completed a transaction online and that you only shop on websites that are secure.
